Collection: Baby camel hair
The Gobi Desert is home to approximately 500,000 two-humped, so-called Bactrian camels. They graze on the sparse vegetation there in a particularly gentle manner and also serve the nomads as a source of milk and for transport.
It was only a few years ago that it was discovered that the combed-out undercoat of one-year-old "baby camels," with a diameter of 16 microns, is equivalent to goat cashmere in terms of fineness, softness, and insulating properties.
During the spring molting season, the baby camels are combed by hand by nomad families in the traditional, animal-friendly way, with only about two handfuls of hair—in its natural dark and light beige shades—being collected from each animal.
As one of the rarest animal fibers in the world, eco-friendly and of the highest quality, baby camel hair is the optimal alternative to cashmere. Exquisite camel hair coats from well-known brands demonstrate just how current this surprisingly soft animal fiber is.

The processors and manufacturers of baby camel hair products, like the nomads' cooperatives, are members of the Mongolian Eco-Textile Export Cluster. Through the cooperation of all stakeholders and the adherence to standards, it ensures transparency and sustainability in supply chains and products.
